This year’s weather has proven well for the solar films industry. May kicked off the season with 85 percent of the U.S. trending warmer than last year and 79 percent clocking in warmer than average, according to Weather Trends International, a Bethlehem, Pa.-based research group. The group says this was the sixth warmest May of the past 17-plus years.

And consumers didn’t wake up to just a few days of extreme heat, it was also the first time since October 2007 in which all four weeks of a given month trended both warmer than last year and warmer than average. If you noticed a spike in holiday sales, the five days leading up to Memorial Day were the most favorable period of the month, the group says, with the second warmest late May period in 17-plus years.

Dealers in the Southwest should certainly have witnessed high sales volumes, as a record-breaking heat-wave developed in the region with 107 degree temperatures in Phoenix and 103 in Las Vegas—all early in the week prior to the holiday. By midweek, the heat spread into Minneapolis with 97 degree temperatures and all the way to Boston, where the city witnessed 92 degrees.
